Khronos Group Launches OpenXR Adopter?s Program, Conformance Testing for Cross-Platform AR/VR API

OpenXR is an open, industry standard API that enables the development and deployment of portable, cross-platform AR/VR (XR) runtimes.
The Khronos Group has launched the OpenXR 1.0 Adopter’s Program and published a Conformance Test Suite on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. OpenXR is an open, industry standard API that enables the development and deployment of portable, cross-platform AR/VR (XR) runtimes. The OpenXR Working Group has also introduced cross-vendor extensions for hand and eye tracking, extending UI techniques supported by the interoperable API.
OpenXR 1.0 developer preview implementations are now available on Valve SteamVR and Varjo headsets. The standard is also being integrated in several other open-source projects, including:
After successfully implementing the API and passing conformance tests, implementers gain patent protection under the Khronos Intellectual Property Framework, the ability to publish their solutions on the Khronos Conformant Product Registry, and approval to use the OpenXR trademark. Platforms that currently support the OpenXR standard include Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest headsets, as well as Microsoft Windows Mixed Reality and HoloLens 2 headsets.
