How do you get more graphics performance into harsh edge environments?
The AECX-TGL0 from Litemax Electronics Inc. is a 146 mm x 102 mm industrial computer designed for computing at the edge. The single board computer (SBC) comes equips either a 10th generatation Intel® Celeron® processor with superb multitasking abilities or 11th generation Intel® Core™ i7/i5/i3 Tiger Lake-UP3 mobile SoC with integrated Intel® Iris Xe-LP Graphics that provides up to 96 execution units.
The 12th generation GPU provides enough graphics support for the AECX-TGL0 to simultaneously drive four independent 4K/2K displays at 60 Hz over 2x HDMI, dual-channel 18 or 24-bit LVDS, or DisplayPort. The Tiger Lake devices also feature a new technology called Intel® Deep Learning Boost (Intel® DL Boost) that provides built-in acceleration for 8-bit integer instructions that execute on the GPU or vector neural network instructions (VNNI) on the CPU. This feature increases the efficiency of AI training and inferencing workloads by combining Intel® AVX-512 instructions and the ability to perform Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) operations.
The 10 nm Core processors offer all of this, which equates to a 25 percent overall compute increase and 2.95x graphics performance improvement, while consuming only 12 to 28 W.
The AECX-TGL0 in Action
Its low power consumption enables deployment of the AECX-TGL0 in resource-constrained market segments like industrial automation, smart retail, and intelligent transportation, where the SBC can be deployed in 0°C ~ 60°C (32°F ~ 140°F) environments with non-condensing humidity levels of up to 95 percent. And, a watchdog timer is present onboard to help ensure reliable functioning.
While in operation, the AECX-TGL0 moves data between the processor and two 260-pin SO-DIMM 3200 MHz DDR4 SDRAM slots, each of which accommodate up to 32 GB DIMM modules. This memory configuration is particularly useful in AIoT and machine/computer vision deployments where sensor data must be captured and stored in off-chip memory while waiting to be exposed to the inferencing performance of the 11th generation Core processor.
In terms of data transfer on and off the board, the AECX-TGL0 provides ample I/O, starting with dual 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet interfaces accessible via RJ45 jacks. These are managed by Intel® I219LM + i211AT GbE controllers, which combine with the Tiger Lake processor to support IEEE 1588 precision timing to bring deterministic IP communications to the use cases mentioned previously.
Additional I/O includes:
Audio line-in/out and mic-in interfaces that are accompanied by a Realtek ALC8885 HD Audio codec
- 10x USB 3.2 and two USB 2.0 ports
- 4x RS-232 and 1x RS-232/422/485
- 8x DIOs
- SMBus connector
M.2 expansion capabilities include support for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (E-Key), LTE (B+M Key), or SSDs (M-Key). Additional storage is also available through a SATA III interface.
