The Small form factor RistrettoBin module is designed for low power applications where battery life is a critical need.
Bluetooth technology has been around since the ‘90s and has evolved into a necessity for many companies running on the edge. One advancement that has been on the fore front of edge computing is Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
While standard Bluetooth peak current consumption is <30mA, the BLE’s peak current consumption is <15mA, making it the prominent Bluetooth technology in IoT.
The BLE uses less power consumption than a typical Bluetooth as it rests in a low power hibernate mode until it receives a message from another Bluetooth radio. They work only when they need to work.
Atmosic Technologies and Globalscale Technologies recently announced the lowest power Bluetooth Low Energy module available in the market.
With a transmit power of only 2.4mA at 0dBm and receiver power under 1mA, Globalscale is using the Atmosic M2 Series ATM2202 chip as a low-power wireless processor for the new RistrettoBin module.
“This new module will help unleash the full potential of the IoT, providing ultra-low power wireless connectivity to the growing range of energy-critical applications,” said Srinivas Pattamatta, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Atmosic Technologies.
Along with the low power Bluetooth LE radio, the chip contains an ultra-low power (150nA) wake-up receiver that functions even when the remainder of the chip is in low-power hibernate mode.
