A fully-configured mini PC, the Simply NUC Topaz takes advantage of the 11th generation Core processor's integrated Intel® Xe graphics engine. The graphics execution units not only support up to four independent displays, but also takes advantage of a GPU instruction set architecture (ISA) that provides low power in high-performance computing use cases like edge AI.

Those applications also benefit from the Topaz kit's support for the Intel Distribution of the OpenVINO toolkit, which maximizes inference performance by optimizing and tuning deep learning models for Intel hardware. Beyond plugins for every Intel architecture, the toolkit features tools for balancing performance and accuracy and the ability to change precision levels from FP32 to FP16 and INT8.

Based on latest generation of artificial neural networks (ANNs), including convolutional neural networks (CNNs), deep neural networks (DNNs), and recurrent (RNNs) and attention-based networks, OpenVINO extends the performance of Intel silicon in computer vision and non-vision workloads. The combination of Topaz and the OpenVINO toolkit can be deployed effectively in tasks ranging from emulation of human vision, automatic speech recognition, and natural language processing to recommendation systems.

Beyond those tools, Topaz users get access to Intel’s DevCloud for the Edge, which serves as a sandbox for prototyping and experimenting with AI inference workloads on Intel hardware. DevCloud lets developers optimize their deep learning models with the tools built into OpenVINO, and then test their performance on the processing elements within the Simply NUC Topaz.
