Avnet’s Embedded Solutions group is undergoing a change, with a new name attached to it. Known as Tria, the group will be responsible for a range of branded hardware modules, boards, and systems and all the software that comes with them. That combines the company’s vast tech support network and state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities.

Sometimes a new brand is created for purely marketing reasons, but in the best cases a company can offer real strategic and engineering benefits from reorganizing and creating a new imprint, subsidiary, or product family. A recent important example is now public, and it comes from Avnet.

Chicago, Illinois. Innovative Arduino PRO industrial kits are available exclusively from Newark and Avnet. The kits are developed to aid professionals and hobbyists in meeting challenges associated with the advance development of specialized projects. The Arduino PRO offers tools such as advanced microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators.

Phoenix, Arizona. Avnet launched Tria, and Tria Technologies, to merge its compute design and manufacturing offerings. “The new brand embodies Avnet’s unique ability to deliver standalone modular embedded compute solutions in a world where OEMs are increasingly looking to move from their own chip-down manufacturing to part- or full- pre-made embedded compute platforms,” said Thomas Staudinger, president of Embedded Solutions, Avnet. “It brings together all of Avnet’s compute design and manufacturing capabilities under one brand.”

While retrofitting SPE into industrial plants is not going to happen overnight, the advantages of the technology are so compelling that there will likely be a gradual process of upgrading the networks over time.
