Last year, embedded specialist Syslogic unveiled its 10.1-inch touchscreen PCs from the Industrial series. Now the company raises the bar once more and presents a streamlined version. The touch panel computer is the first HMI system in the C-Series. It has been precisely tailored to automation. Later this year, a 12-inch and 15.6-inch panel computer, both in widescreen format, will follow.
Ideal for 80 percent of all automation applications
While Syslogic is pushing the envelope with its Industrial series in terms of scalability, robustness and functional safety, the company is moving into a different direction with the recently launched C-Series. Syslogic Product Manager Raphael Binder says: "The development of the C-Series is based on meticulous market research." Binder adds that Syslogic has relied on the traditional 80-to-20 rule.
Accordingly, the C-Series, which also includes box PCs besides the touchscreen computers, is suitable for use in 80 percent of standard automation applications. This goal was the focus of R&D right from the start. The result is an HMI system that is optimized in terms of cost and technology for standard automation applications. Correspondingly, Syslogic has left out everything that was not absolutely necessary for 80 percent of these standard applications. Typical applications center around the control and monitoring of production lines and machines. This means that the touchscreen PC is perfectly suitable as a web panel for client applications in process monitoring or as a control panel in traffic engineering, for example, for the back end control of tunnel monitoring systems.
Optimized - but without limiting resilience
No compromises were made by the company in terms of industrial standards. The new C-Series HMI system with 10.1-inch widescreen display features an IP65 front. Thanks to the Projected Capacitive Touch (PCT) technology, the panel PC is intuitive to use and supports multi-touch. Like all Syslogic devices, the touchscreen PC does not require easily breakable fans, since it is passively cooled. The platform uses proven Intel Atom processors from the ApolloLake series (x7-E3950 or x5-E3930). This platform strikes the perfect balance between computing power and low power consumption and is therefore popular in modern embedded systems. The C-Series touchscreen PC is designed for 24/7 operation and offers durability and ruggedness at an attractive price. Another important selling point for automation specialists is the ease of installation. Counter frame and gasket seals are included. Moreover, as with all embedded and HMI systems, Syslogic guarantees above-average availability.
Easy system integration and commissioning
For simple system integration, Syslogic provides an Ethernet and Mini DisplayPort interface as well as two USB-3 interfaces. The C-Series HMI system also ships with a preconfigured operating system. You can choose from any of the common industrial operating systems. The newest environments include Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 LTSC and Debian 9.
Syslogic manufactures the Box PCs and HMI systems from the C-Series as standard units in large quantities. Accordingly, customers receive uncompromising industrial products that offer a compelling price/performance ratio. Product Manager Raphael Binder states: "With the C-Series, automation specialists are getting a rugged and long-lasting industrial device that is customized to their needs." The interest after the first presentation at trade fairs was enormous, and Syslogic was confident to further expand its market position with the C-series, according to Binder.
