Tool looks at, monitors, and controls the energy use within a home, with special consideration for solar energy.
One company that I came across at CES was Smappee. I have to say that their name alone made me curious. The company develops smart energy monitoring solutions. The latest arta of interest is solar, where Smappee offers its Smappee Plus product.
According to the company, the product “empowers consumers to better manage their electricity use and costs by providing detailed, real-time measurements of their energy production and consumption.”
More specifically, it integrates a patented non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) technique with submetering clamps to measure real-time energy use from household electronics and appliances. The result is that it provides consumers with a higher level of insight into the personal energy use than they were previously afforded.
Aimed at the growing number of homes with solar and other renewable technologies, Smappee Plus acts like an energy traffic cop by directing the energy flow within the home to maximize energy efficiency. The Smappee Plus sells for $549.
