Although it was founded 15 years ago, you may not be familiar with Hangzhou C-Sky Microsystems Corp., a China-based company that focuses on high-performance and ultra-low-power 32-bit embedded processor cores that are based on the C-Sky self-defined ISA. Through its deep collaboration with Alibaba Group, C-Sky recently announced its new computing architecture and platform supporting Alibaba’s YunOS YoC.

The result is a low-power, embedded CPU that supports the full security link from the chip to cloud. It can be used in a variety of applications such as smart home, smart city, networking equipment, automotive, and personal health. While the announcement didn’t pick up a significant amount of press activities in the U.S., it’s expected that many chip design companies in China will design this CPU into platforms that support the YunOS.

Along those same lines, you may be familiar with EEMBC, but you probably didn’t realize that this benchmark consortium has been around for nearly 20 years. Due to bandwidth and geographical limitations most of the focus for those 20 years has been around vendors and industries in the United States and Europe.

However, C-Sky has recently upgraded its membership in the consortium to become an Executive board member and in turn is taking an active role in helping EEMBC make more connections in the growing China processor industry. Although EEMBC already has members and licensees in China, such as Huawei, we will use this opportunity with C-Sky to expand these relationships. Furthermore, the ecosystem of YunOS and the C-Sky processor architecture strongly overlaps with EEMBC’s next generation benchmarks targeting scale-out servers, IoT security, and IoT connectivity.
