After two years with the Raspberry Pi Model B, the Raspberry Pi Foundation released the Rasbperry Pi Model B+ to incorporate requested improvements from the community.

The new Model B+ still has the BCM2835 processor, the same software, and 512 MB RAM as the Model B, but includes:

• Power consumption reduced by 0.5 W to 1 W
• 40 pins in the GPIO header, up from 26 pins
• 4 USB 2.0 ports, double that of the Model B, along with better hotplug and overcurrent behavior
• A push-push micro SD socket socket replaces the friction-fit socket
• Better audio, and a more streamlined form factor – USB connectors are now aligned with tbe board edge, composite video is now on the 3.5 mm jack, and four mounting holes have been added

The Model B+ is now available at Raspberry Pi distributors, and the Model B will still be in production as long as the Raspberry Pi Foundation sees continued demand. So far the community is reacting positively to the upgrades.
