The LoRa Alliance announced the public availability of three new specifications supporting and standardizing firmware updates over the air (FUOTA), which is unique to LoRaWAN among LPWANs.

The three new specifications have generated a 50 percent increase in the amount of LoRaWAN Certified products compared to 2017 with the number of public LoRaWAN networks rapidly reaching 100 worldwide.

Three separate specifications have been issued, as each can be used individually. The three new specifications are as follows:

• LoRaWAN Application Layer Clock Synchronization Specification v1.0.0
• LoRaWAN Remote Multicast Setup Specification v1.0.0
• LoRaWAN Fragmented Data Block Transport Specification v1.0.0

These specifications will grant the critical updates needed by remote devices for IoT, helping remote or difficult-to-reach sensors that may still require updates.
