I always like the day before the show actually opens, when the construction people are busy building the booths, people are scurrying around trying to register, and so on. But in general, it’s the calm before the storm. In this case, it’s a fairly significant storm, both in terms of the event, which is fairly massive, and for myself, as I have more appointments that time really allows.

Some of the meetings are with vendors looking to pitch their latest products. Those meetings usually range from the “this is the best you can come up with” to the “wow, why didn’t you tell me about this sooner.” It’s the latter type of stories that you’ll be reading about in upcoming blogs, so stay tuned.

Embedded World really embodies what “embedded systems” is all about. There are people here proving microprocessors and microcontroller and FPGAs, operating systems (those of the free variety and those that are quite costly), tools vendors, box and rack manufacturers, connector guys, and so on. You get the picture. My point is that an embedded system really comes down to almost any component of almost any type of compute platform, including automotive, banking/financial, media, and so on.

A weather delay forced me to miss my flight and cause some stress, but I only missed two appointments, which hopefully I can make up. And it’s snowing pretty hard as I write this.
