HARTING launched the T1 industrial connector, which the company calls the standard mating face for Industrial Single Pair Ethernet. It can communicate across industrial ethernet protocols such as ethernet/IP, Profinet, and EtherCAT, among others, with a single twisted pair of wires rather than using four or eight wires.
The T1 utilizes power-over-data-line (PoDL) technology to provide communication, voltage, and amperage needed to power the device.
The connector reduces the number of connections on a device, which eliminates the need for external power. Additionally, devices on a plant floor, traditionally communicating over fieldbus protocols, can join the same IP-based network as the others. This communication enables peer-to-peer communication, open-loop feedback of all devices, and smart functionality from the main control room to the device.
The new connector’s mating face is standardized according to IEC 63171-6 (formerly IEC 61076-3-125) and, it meets IEEE 802.3 requirements for Single Pair Ethernet.
