The University of Wisconsin-Madison and Canoo have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the construction of a research and development center focused on electric propulsion technologies. The center, which will be located at UW-Madison, will also investigate solutions for on-grid and off-grid operation with the goal of lowering total cost of EV ownership.
Canoo, who designs modular, space-saving multipurpose electric platforms, will develop a talent pipeline through the university that provides internships and other real-world R&D opportunities for UW-Madison College of Engineering undergraduate and graduate students.
The UW-Madison MoU is part of a larger Canoo initiative.
“We are launching a multi-university research and development program designed to further critical research and catalyze innovation to support the manufacture of electric vehicles,” said Tony Aquila, Chairman and CEO of Canoo. “This program will enhance U.S. competitiveness and benefit the entire industry while simultaneously advancing our IP.”
